Forum Sage is an AI assistant built specifically for forum members and moderators. It knows the methodology — the meeting structure, the presentation process, experience sharing, the exercises, the frameworks, the books. You can use it to prepare for meetings, explore ideas, design exercises for your group, or learn more about a concept you encountered in forum.

Sage appears throughout the resources site as an "Explore with Sage" button on exercises, books, frameworks, and guides. You can also use it as a standalone chatbot for longer conversations. It will occasionally make mistakes or miss nuance that a human facilitator would catch — it's knowledgeable, not infallible.

Two ways to use it

Mode 1: Looking things up. You want to know what the Drama Triangle is, how a Lifeline exercise works, what Brené Brown's research says about vulnerability, or which update format would work for a group that's been doing Best/Worst/Dread/Anticipate for a year. This is reference mode — asking Sage to retrieve and organize knowledge from the forum methodology. No sensitive information needed. Ask freely.

Mode 2: Exploring something personal. You want to prepare for a presentation by talking through what's underneath the topic. You want to practice articulating the feeling before you walk into the room. You want to do a dry run of your update and figure out what you're actually carrying this month. This is exploration mode. It may involve sharing things that are personal or emotional.

Mode 1 is a library. Mode 2 is a rehearsal room. Know which one you're in.

Your data and privacy

On this website (the sidebar chat): Your messages go through our server to OpenAI's API. They're retained for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then permanently deleted. Never used for training. No chat history, no account, no memory. This is temporary by design — no settings to change.

The standalone Forum Sage on ChatGPT: Conversations are saved to your history by default and may be used for model training unless you opt out. For maximum privacy, use Temporary Chat mode or turn off "Improve the model for everyone" in Settings.

The sidebar is the more private option by default. The standalone version is more capable but requires you to manage your own settings.

The short version

Discuss freely: personal feelings, leadership challenges, career decisions, meeting pre-work, people in your life by first name. The realistic risk is smaller than sending an email about the same topic.

Don't share on any platform: passwords, financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, proprietary source code, or active legal strategy from your attorney.

Use judgment: when discussing other people's health, legal situations, or finances, keep the identifying details general.

Pen and paper

There is something about working through a difficult topic with a pen and a blank page. The slowness of handwriting forces a different kind of honesty. The Forum Companion includes printable worksheets for every update format and a presentation prep sheet. A piece of paper doesn't go through any server, doesn't get retained for any period, and doesn't involve any policy you need to read. It's yours.

Sage is one tool to support your pre-work. Pen and paper is another. Use whichever one meets the moment.

What only humans can do

Forum Sage can help you prepare. It can help you organize your thoughts, understand the methodology, practice articulating what you're carrying, and explore a framework before you bring it to the group.

But it can't do the thing that forum exists to do.

It can't sit with you when your voice cracks. It can't share its own story of going through something similar — not from experience, because it hasn't had any. It can't look you in the eye and say "I've been there" and have you feel the weight of that because you know the person and you know they're telling the truth. It can't hold a silence where something shifts in the room.

AI can help you prepare to be honest. Only a room full of people who know you can hold what happens when you are.

The risk isn't that AI replaces human connection — it's that it subtly reduces the appetite for it. If you can process something with a chatbot at 11 PM, you might feel less urgency to bring it to the group. And what gets lost is the thing that can only happen in the room: being truly seen by people who care about you.

Sage is available to support you. The real thing happens in the room.
